DC PARENT VOICE AND CHOICE WEEK 2022

It’s the FINAL COUNTDOWN!

We’re only HOURS away from the first DC Parent Voice and Choice Week (DCPVCW) meeting of 2022.

Are you a DC parent of public school students who is interested in joining PAVE parent leaders’ meetings with education policymakers? RSVP here!

For five years (and counting!), PAVE parent leaders have hosted DCPVCW - a week-long event where parents invite and meet with DC’s elected leaders including the At-Large and Ward-based Councilmembers in Wards 1, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, the Council Chairperson, and policymakers like the Deputy Mayor for Education.

At PAVE, we believe you cannot have true choice WITHOUT parents having a voice, so parents chair the meetings, parents write their own questions for decision makers on their policy priorities, and parents share their stories and perspectives with the people chosen to represent them.

From 2016 to 2020, DCPVCW meetings were held in-person at the Wilson Building - a space that many parents went into for the first time during these events - but the continued impacts of the pandemic have shifted us to a virtual setting for the second year in a row.

No matter the setting, we know that parents’ powerful #PurpleWave will be present this year as they come together in community to share their vision for their 2021-2022 #ParentPriorities: School-Based Mental Health Supports (SBMH) and Out-of-School Time (OST) Programs

This year, parent leaders have invited the following decision makers to meet with them and are READY to talk together about how to make our schools better for all kids with:

*Note: PAVE’s Ward 4 PLE Board members reached out to Councilmember Janeese Lewis George’s office for a meeting and the Councilmember declined. However, PAVE’s Ward 4 parent leaders are still planning to get together and share about what is and is not working in our schools and for our kids in the Ward. And we invite all Ward 4 parents to join in - more details to come!
