The #PurpleWave Rolls Through
Do you hear that? It’s the sound of the #PurpleWave rolling through!
On Wednesday, Mayor Bowser released her FY 2024 proposed budget, and it showed critical investments in parent leaders’ policy priorities. It was a tough budget season, with the District’s revenue on a decline and federal COVID relief funds drying up. Yet despite these challenges, the fierce advocacy of parent leaders led to the Mayor and her team heeding their calls, and funding many of PAVE’s budget asks!

The POWER of Parent Voice
Parent leaders have been AMPLIFYING their voices through meetings with policymakers, (including PAVE’s first meeting with Mayor Bowser herself and her City Administrator Kevin Donahue and Budget Director Jenny Reed), testimonies, tweets, and blogs & op-eds. The Mayor’s proposed budget shows what can be possible when voices come together and unite behind a collective vision.

We know the fight doesn't end here, in fact, it’s just beginning! It’s now time for the DC Council to build on these investments and look for ways to fully fund parent leaders' visions for SBMH and OST.
With upcoming walk-arounds at the Wilson Building, LIVE testimony at Council hearings, in-person meetings with city leaders, blog writing, and days of action...the #PurpleWave is charged up and ready to continue advocating for the resources and supports needed to ensure great schools for EVERY child in EVERY ward and community.
